ALS, 1777 August 25 : Albany, to Pierre Van Cortlandt.

Written to Van Cortlandt, President of the New York Council of Safety, dealing with the American victories at Bennington and Fort Stanwix and expressing, for the first time in Clinton's correspondence, the possibility of complete victory in the state. He predicted that "a proper spirit on this Occassion would enable us totally to destroy the enemy in this Quarter ... The Enemy are in our Power."
